Feb Updates!

GFO’s first month was a success!  We are active on Facebook and Twitter, and even have a youtube page (awaiting some videos).

We held three official events, in two different city/areas, including one service-oriented event for Habitat For Humanity Philadelphia

The New York Chapter of GFO, hosted a lovely Bday Celebration for GFO Event Co-Ordinator Stacey Jackson. A group of 7 awesome ladies, met up at Stacey’s house in Brooklyn for appetizers,

and then took a stroll to a nearby wine-bar, www.TheJakeWalk.com  where they topped the night off with wine, and birthday cake!

The Philadelphia Chapter of GFO had a Sunday evening get-together complete with a private tarot reading for each attendee and optional Wii Games.

This event was hosted by Aston resident Dianne McQuillan and was a huge success.

The Philadelphia Chapter also hosted their first sevice-oriented GFO Event.
5 amazing ladies met at 7am on a Saturday morning to carpool to the North Philadelphia Location of Habitat For Humanity, where they volunteered as cashiers, and sales help for the Bi-Monthly HFH ReStore Program http://www.habitatphiladelphia.org/habitat-philadephia-restore/shop-restore

We are proud to say that we assisted in raising over $2300 for Habitat For Humanity at the ReStore Yard-Sale!

I am thrilled at the progress of GFO Events and the willingness of so many ladies to join forces and plan events.  I have to also give acknowledgement to our Nashville Co-Ordinator Karissa Brocker, who had scheduled a GFO event at an Art Walk but unfortunately was rained out, but we are confident that the Nashville ladies will have a successful March event!

Plans are to get an interactive web-page/message board up and running soon, but for now please stay tuned to the facebook page for events and updates.

And as always, if there is an event that you think is a perfect GFO event, please reach out to us, and we will help you get it organized!

I Love You Anyway!

What is GFO Events?

GFO Events is an idea that sprung from my heart a few days ago, although I suppose it’s been ruminating in there for sometime.  There have been a few very strong catalysts that pushed it out.

After 11 years living in Hollywood, CA I decided to take a re-charge hiatus back in my home-town, just outside of Philadelphia, PA. One of the multitude of emotions and events that prompted the neccessity for this re-charge was that I was feeling lonely and isolated. It felt to me, that I was lacking serious girlfriend bonding time.  Don’t get me wrong, I have amazing girlfriends in LA, but it just seemed like face-time and girl-dates were being replaced by text msgs and facebook.  I arrived on the east-coast with the intentions (and reciprocal intentions), of spending tons of face-time with my (yes, 19 years later we’re still friends), best-friends from High-School.

After four months on the east coast, I have realized it’s an EPIDEMIC. Regardless of City, Relationship Status, Income Status, or Career Choice, face-time and fun girl-friend oriented activities are hard to come by.  People move away, then they move back. There are marriages, and then divorces. Businesses to run, children to care for, bills to pay, and numerous other things that take priority to our girl-friends.

Our girlfriends. The ones that got us thru that bad-breakup, the one who’s hair you held when she was sick, the ones that encouraged a big job change, the one who’s hand you held at her father’s funeral.  Yes, those all-important, make everything better with a hug, and know all your thoughts in a glance, girlfriends.

Life is better with GirlFriends.

The next catalyst was an email from actor advocate and career coach, Dallas Travers suggesting I check out Soul Art Tv hosted by Laura Hollick. Laura has launched a Creative Spiritual Revolution, and is currently producing and interviewing over 50 creative spritual revlutionaries discussing topics in all areas of love, wealth, career, creativity, and more! I’ve been watching a new interview every day for the past week.

The third catalyst was a response to 2 tweets I sent out to the twitterverse,

Wanting some creative friends to grab a coffee, hike, have a glass of wine, to chat about good stuff & bad, feeling inspired & understood”

“Also want: friends that are up for spontaneous adventures, & all-nighters; shooting footage, creating pitches & plans writing songs & poetry”

These 2 tweets brought a few responses from other women who were wanting the exact same things. One in particular, Kristen, has now jumped on-board to do the logo and design work for GFO Events.

The final catalyst was a facebook photo tag. I was tagged in a photo at a Bday party in 2003. In the photo with me were four other ladies. I fondly remembered each of them, and recalled how we had each met thru a yahoo-group at the time promoting Girl’s Night Outs.

14 hours later, I got the inspirational HIT!  I’ve been producing events, planning parties, and organizing get-togethers all my life, both professionally and for fun.
Why not mix it up with my enormous love for social-media, and my passion to spend more time with my current friends and meet new ones!

I tossed the idea around to my nearest and dearest, they mocked my original idea for the organization’s name, and in the end it was my sister Sara, who thought up the title.

This week’s focus is creating the logo and web-designs, establishing all of our internet portals, mailing lists, etc.  I’ll also be reaching out to women in select cities to invite them to be event co-ordinators for their individual cities.

By next week, I hope to be able to announce at least some of February’s Events.

For now, please spread the word, you can find us on Facebook  and Twitter

And of course, by all means if you’d like to be an event co-ordinator for your city, email us at GirlFriendsOnlyEvents@Gmail.com  (At this time EC’s are volunteer positions :)

Oh, and one more thing, this is not by any means an anti-men movement. I love men, especially tall, tattooed, sexy, adventurous, intelligent, creative men, and every so often I’d like to schedule a CO-Ed event on the GFO Events Calendar, but my mission, the heart of GFO, is to inspire women around the world, to nourish their souls and fill their hearts with the sort of joy, love, and inspiration, that comes from being around your girlfriends.

I Love You Anyway! ~
